Nieco zawstydzony spostrzeżeniami autorki co do wzajemnej nienawiści pomiędzy rodakami muszę przyznać z jednej strony rację a z drugiej nieco zanegować,gdyż uważam ,że w dużej mierze jest to raczej zazdrość .Głęboko zakorzeniona i pielęgnowana w nas od wielu,wielu pokoleń.Czasy pańszczyźniane w których elitarna klasa uciskała chłopstwo a później po wojnie okupacja sowiecka i niby równość ale ponownie lepsi i lepsiejsi ,potem odnowa i znów ustawieni z układami…co zawsze rodzi zazdrość …

I really don’t think Maslowska’s books are vulgar, guest. I think that you confuse naturalisticly depicted reality with vulgarity. The world is a shitwhole and Maslowska’s books (both Wojna and Paw Krolowej, to a lesser extent the play) aren’t nicely written since she portrays life as it is. Vulgarity for me is to deliberately try to shock the audience (the reader or people around you) in order to sell something (ot yourself). Maslowska doesn’t do that. Indeed, as she explained in the interview quoted by Pawel, her previous books were quite condescending. You could feel that she doesn’t like the characters she describes, that she despises them, trying to show how pathetic they are in their attempts to appear gangsta and/or western. She invented a new, broken language at age 19 (when her first novel was published), literally revolutionizing Polish contemporary literature. She is my age now (24) and went a long way since then, still exploring the Polish psyche (I swear I’m not working for her publisher ;). I am about the same age as she is and every now and then, when reading an interview with her, I am astonished how accurate her comments on the Polish are, how she just phrased in several sentences all those thoughts that have been rambling for so long in my head. Ok, this post isn’t actually very funny, but I think gest’s comments are just a bourgeois incomprehension. Like these bourgeois criticising Zola in the XIXth century for being vulgar (because he described the harsh living conditions of the miners, their “fucking and drinking around” as I may say). Okay, enouhg of this, but if you’re interested which Maslowska’s comments on the Polish mind are so revolutionary to me, just go there for a selection:

Well, she writes that “the market” doesn’t supply her with the kind of novel that she wants.

So you conclusion is that Masłowska is a bad writer, because she doesn’t give Joanna Sokołowska a “proper novel” she wants, and she thinks this country needs?:)

No wiesz, ja akurat niespecjalnie poszukuję współczesnej konwencjonalnej powieści. Zwłaszcza od Ferdydurke. Ten gatunek mnie jakoś specjalnie nie jara.

To tak jakbyś narzekał, na muzykę house, dlatego że jest inna niż najlepsze wzory Chopina.
