Behold! The wonderous new skyline of Warsaw

Nowe centrum Warszawy: szkło, wieżowce, fontanny

For 20 years a team of crack (addicted) architects has been hard at work behind closed doors on the 33rd floor of the Palace of Culture and Science. They recently revealed the 328th version of plans to beautify Plac Defilad and this time they really are trying to hide the PKiN. No less than six new shiny towers are to be erected as can be seen in the photo above. This comes as a surprise given the recent news that erection of towers in Warsaw is a dying art.

It’s all very exciting with such things as glass roofed walkways, a tapestry of fountains, a highly original building at the entrance/exit from Metro station ‘Centrum’, a winter garden with palm trees and many cafes and bars at street level with sunny aspects and happy smiling staff!

These glass roofs also mean you don’t have to worry about “the attack on the head”.

Glass roofs przesłoniłyby the passages set foot on the rear of buildings and Marszalkowska Jerozolimskie. In this way the center could be created successfully competing with the city shopping centers, among others, love to Warsaw for the fact that you can walk between the shops without worrying about the fact that the attack on the head.

“Love to Warsaw!” there’s a nice warm fuzzy thing for the weekend.

Here’s your chance to decide when all this might be realised – it’s a multiple choice quiz:

  1. Never
  2. Not in my lifetime
  3. Between 10-20 years time
  4. Between 5-10 years time
  5. I’m a pot smoking wild optimist with no real grasp on reality

  1. With each new version of the plan, the towers on those visualisations become less and less squarish and more wobbly…

  2. They seem quite determined to hide the Palace of Culture and Naughtiness. I suggest a giant curtain would be much cheaper.

  3. I remember those plans in early nineties to either demolish the palace (too costly) or paint it pink. I have no idea why pink.

Would be cool if they decided to put some zebras instead of the stinky underground corridors…

I don’t think hiding the palace is the best thing to do. It kinda became the symbol of the city. Skyscrapers are the same everywhere.

Although it’s a tempting thought to demolosh the PKiN and recreate the original pre-war look and streets. Most stylish neighboorhoods used to be there.

  4. I hope that this will help change the current project for the Museum of Modern Art, which is a disgusting piece of the worst in modern architecture:
