FAQs

What do you mean by Frequently Asked Questions?
In this context ‘frequently’ means ‘more than once’ and ‘question’ means ‘I imagine people might be wondering about this.’ Simple but highly misleading, not unlike myself.

What is a “collaborative blog”?
A collaborative blog is just like a normal blog except that it’s written by a whole bunch of people instead of just one. This has several advantages, the most important of which is the fact that you can blame other people when the stats take a dive or things go wrong. It’s highly therapeutic.

What the hell are you guys doing in Poland?
Some of us were born here but the rest were forced at gunpoint to get on a plane and move here. Ok, that’s not actually true. Once, long ago, a student asked me the question “why did you come to Poland?,” “I was curious” I said. He thought for a while and then said “one day, I want to be curious like you.”

Can I write for Polandian?
You bet your sweet ass you can. We’re always looking for guest writers. Anybody with a good idea for a post about Poland, Polish people, or foreigners in Poland is welcome to submit her or his idea for a post to (go to the Contact Polandian page).
If we like it, we’ll invite you to write it. Or we might just steal it and use it for ourselves. The rewards are: lasting fame, the approval of the entire nation, and a sense of moral superiority second to none. No actual money though.

What’s the deal with all these ‘myths’ and things?
Poland is an extremely complex place for all kinds of reasons, not least of which are 50 years of communist rule, playing host to the greatest massacre of human beings the planet has ever seen, and spending several centuries as a non-existant place. If you want the truth about Poland you’ve got to come at it in a sideways and sneaky way.

Why are you being rude about my country/people?
We’re not, we’re just trying to understand what the hell’s going on. Sometimes we tread on toes, but it’s not deliberate. And anyway, a bit of rudeness never hurt anybody. We encourage reciprocal rudeness.

So what’s this blog FOR?
When we’ve figured that out we’ll let you know. At the moment we’re just having fun writing about the stuff we come across day to day.

Do you want to invest in a surefire money making scheme involving the funds of a recently deceased Iraqi general with a bank account in Hong Kong?
Meh.
